GivingTuesday: For Kids Like Maelin-Kate

As the virus captures the world's attention, families among us still fight other health concerns—children like Maelin-Kate, who received lifesaving treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®. We are proud to join Brands x Better in supporting the lifesaving work of St. Jude and helping kids like Maelin-Kate get better. We’ll continue to donate 10% of sales to St. Jude through the month of May.

Here’s why we give.

Giving Tuesday

When Maelin-Kate’s parents brought her home from China in 2017, they knew she had medical needs. She had hip dysplasia and was scheduled for orthopedic surgery within weeks of her adoption. That’s how her Fanconi anemia came to light. People with Fanconi anemia do not produce healthy bone marrow—so they don’t produce healthy blood. Untreated, this genetic disease can cause leukemia.

At St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Maelin-Kate’s treatment included chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. Maelin-Kate now visits St. Jude for regular check-ups. She’s the youngest of five children and the only girl. “She has glitter in her veins,” said her mom. “She’s just super joyful. Every day, she finds a reason why it’s the best day ever.”
