Staying put at home doesn’t need to mean stuck in a workout rut. So we asked Anel Dzafic, founder of CT-based Countdown Fitness, to lead our virtual team in some simple exercises to help us balance Netflix-and-chilling with moving-and-shaking. Here are his tips.
“The most important thing right now is to move your body and avoid a completely sedentary lifestyle. Exercise is a proven stress reducer (something we can all use!).
My main suggestion is a commitment to moving your body at least 3x/week…with one body weight workout in there. One thing everyone can do is walk outside, with social distancing in mind. And getting in one body-weight workout each week will deliver the benefits of endorphins and muscle strengthening. You don’t need fancy equipment to get a great workout. Your body is all you need! Bands or weights can help but aren’t necessary.
A lot of people are not working right now, so they have a lot of time on their hands and are exercising far more than usual—resulting in totally avoidable injuries. More isn’t always better! To avoid injury, let your body rest and recover between workouts, listen to your body, and focus on form rather than quantity.
